Open Year-Round: The Best Seafood in Midcoast Maine

Open Year-Round: The Best Seafood in Midcoast Maine

Just because we’re in the tail end of winter doesn’t mean you can’t dine on some of the best seafood in Midcoast Maine. Luckily for our wintertime guests, Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort and Water’s Edge is centrally located near all of the premier year-round restaurants in the Boothbay Harbor area. Our beautiful Davis Island resort, unlike all Boothbay Harbor hotels, rests on the water’s edge of the Sheepscot River, which means that our Maine cottage and suite rentals are all within 30 minutes of these four award-worthy Midcoast Maine seafood establishments.

Boathouse Bistro Tapas Lounge & Restaurant – Boothbay Harbor

Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort is a scenic 12-mile drive from Boothbay Harbor’s Boathouse Bistro Tapas Lounge & Restaurant, known for their spectacular fresh-caught seafood, signature cocktails, and an ideal harbor-view deck. The sizable deck is sadly but understandably closed during the winter months, but you can still indulge in one of the most extensive seafood menus in the state. Boathouse Bistro’s culinary staff create delicious seafood risotto, blackened shrimp, pan-fried prosciutto haddock, and locally-caught steamed Maine lobster amidst their nautical-themed interiors.

Damariscotta River Grill – Damariscotta

Boothbay Harbor hotelsIf you travel east six miles on US-1 to downtown Damariscotta, you’ll discover a quaint yet upscale restaurant among the area’s shops. Damariscotta River Grill provides, as they so eloquently put it, “a true taste of Maine.” They specialize in beautifully-plated comfort food. We enjoy their parmesan fresh-picked lobster risotto, pan-seared scallops over oven-roasted tomatoes, and Pemaquid oysters with housemade horseradish sauce (their house specialty)! They offer an extensive wine list, old-world charm, and beautiful presentation.

Gurnet Trading Co. – Brunswick

The Gurnet Trading Company, a true hidden gem if there ever was one, is a scenic 45-minute drive from most Boothbay Harbor hotels, but it’s only 20 miles from Edgecomb, Maine. This peaceful seafood shack is located on the edge of Buttermilk Cove south of Brunswick. There’s nothing visually spectacular about this riverfront seafood shack, but the friendly service, low prices, and lobster rolls are well worth the trip to Brunswick. They also specialize in clam chowder, perfectly golden-brown crab cakes, and several steamed items (such as mussels, lobster, and clams).

Sarah’s Cafe – Wiscasset

Boothbay Harbor hotelsTourists flock to Wiscasset (just over the bridge from Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort) for their world-class, award-winning lobster rolls. Red’s Eats, as made famous by the likes of Andrew Zimmern, is considered one of the best lobster shacks in the world, but they’re closed during the off-season. Sarah’s Cafe, meanwhile, has been crowned by hundreds of locals and tourists alike as having the best lobster roll in the town. What makes Sarah’s lobster roll extra tasty is their fresh-baked bread. They have a wide variety of items that you would expect at a family diner, but they also create several unique seafood dishes like the crab cake burger, haddock melt, and their famous haddock shepherd’s pie, just to name a few.
