Quintessential Autumn Activities in Midcoast Maine

Pumpkin patch and corn field.

It may not look or feel like fall at the moment, but Midcoast Maine is on the cusp of autumn. With the changing of seasons comes breathtaking fall foliage, harvest festivals, and spooky Halloween delights. In a matter of weeks, Edgecomb Maine will be an arresting amalgam of amber, marigold, and crimson thanks to Mother Nature’s skillful paintbrush. Anxious leaf peepers and fall fanatics flock to Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort and Water’s Edge every autumn to solve complex corn mazes, pick ripe pumpkins, and brave local haunted history tours. Plan a visit to Midcoast Maine and see why we’re one of the five best autumn destinations in North America, according to Thrillist.

Beth’s Farm Market

Embark on a 30-minute drive through the countryside to Beth’s Farm Market, north of Warren. Beth’s Farm Market has the region’s premier corn maze, complete with a hayride and the family-friendly “hay mountain.” The festivities take place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in September and October. You can also purchase mums, Indian corn, pumpkins, apple cider, apple butter, decorative gourds, and four varieties of squash.

Wolfe’s Neck Center

Three of the state’s best pumpkin patches, according to Best Things Maine, are within 29 miles of Edgecomb Maine – but only one farm genuinely stands out. Wolfe’s Neck Center, located a short distance from beautiful Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, is the premier pumpkin patch in Midcoast Maine. Wolfe’s Neck Center hosts “Fall on the Farm” every weekend in Freeport. These two-day celebrations should be on every tourist’s itinerary. Some of the themes this year are Farm Harvest, Music Mayhem, Fiber Festivities, Dairy Days, and Woods & Shore. They host workshops, demonstrations, live music, charity runs, and dances. Families will also enjoy hayrides, popular autumn delicacies, pumpkin picking, and petting zoos. Rocky Ridge Orchard offers a similar experience in Bowdoin, but their main focus is apple picking.

Red Cloak Haunted History Tours

Join local genealogy and history expert Sally “The Lady in the Red Cloak” Lobkowicz for a Haunted History Tour through one of Midcoast Maine’s charming villages. The Lady in the Red Cloak reveals buried local history and eerie mysteries at twilight in eight nearby cities. Every tour is within minutes of Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort and Water’s Edge. These lantern-lit walking tours are chilling and historical. Lobkowicz’s passion for mystery bleeds through her story-telling abilities and theatrical presentation as she leads groups through back streets, dark alleys, and oceanfront boardwalks.
