WHERE TO GOLF IN MAINE
With dozens of local courses to choose from, it was challenging to determine which three are worth a visit from afar. In the end, these three unique and dissimilar locales stood out: Bath Golf Club, Boothbay Country Club, and Sebasco Harbor Golf Club. All three are within 23 miles of our charming cottages and rooms.
BATH GOLF CLUB
There are many luxurious, spotless golf clubs in Midcoast Maine—Bath Golf Club is not one of them. This surprising hidden gem blows away the competition because of its quiet landscape and historic allure. This secluded 18-hole course, founded in 1932, rests on a stunning, rolling farmland northwest of the shipbuilding town of Bath. After 18 holes, rock in a wooden chair on the 1850s clubhouse deck. Bath is equally gorgeous during fall foliage as it is on a sunny summer afternoon. Located 15 miles from Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort and Water’s Edge, you won’t want to miss the serenity of the Bath Golf Club.
BOOTHBAY COUNTRY CLUB
Nearly twice the price as Bath, Boothbay Country Club is arguably Maine’s #1 country club. Boothbay, an easy 10-mile drive south from our Wiscasset Maine hotels, has fresh, navy blue ponds, pristine fairways, and a first-rate clubhouse with three restaurants. Unique waterways snake through the course, creating challenging yet picturesque golf shots. Boothbay is known for its ocean breezes and stunning vistas, the Boothbay Country Club has superb caddie services, private lessons, and delectable cuisine. Paul’s Steakhousehas upscale dining with views of the rolling forested hillside. Grille 19 and Over the Ledge offers modest dining and drinks for those aiming to save money for that next round of golf.
SEBASCO HARBOR GOLF CLUB
Sebasco Harbor Golf Club is the furthest drive from our private paradise, but it’s worth the trek. This popular nine-hole course weaves through tall aspen and ash trees. Many of the holes, including the scenic par 3 2nd hole, are on the water’s edge overlooking Casco Bay. The bent grass fairways and distinctively-shaped greens make Sebasco one of Maine’s toughest courses.
TIPS AND TRICKS
Remember to purchase a divot repair tool and use it every time your ball leaves a mark on a green. A lot of novices don’t realize the massive difference golf gloves and shoes can make. The glove provides a better grip of the club, while the shoes prevent slippage. It’s never a bad idea to loosen before a round by hitting a small bucket of balls on the driving range—you can practice keeping your head down to avoid topping the golf ball. Please don’t, under any circumstances, drive on greens and tees. Tee off with an iron if you’re having issues controlling your driver.
